State Government Transparency Websites

Alaska

  • Checkbook Online
    The State of Alaska is publishing information from the statewide accounting system on the web. This is part of a national trend for governments to develop websites that allow constituents to view financial information in searchable formats. Such websites are widely considered to improve transparency into the financial operations of government.

California

  • Reporting Transparency in Government
    To ensure a higher level of transparency than required by law, on March 6, 2009, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a memorandum to all Governor's Staff, all Agency Secretaries and all Department Directors directing them to make publicly available on the Governor's web site the Statement of Economic Interests, Form 700, and the Travel Expense claims for the Governor's Office Senior Staff and Deputies, Agency Secretaries, Agency Undersecretaries and Department Directors. This site will increase the transparency of Governor Schwarzenegger's administration by making information regarding Statement of Economic Interests, Form 700 and Travel Expense Claim Forms readily available to the public.

Florida

  • Transparency Florida
    The Florida Legislature created Transparency Florida to provide the public with unprecedented access to state government spending information by posting Florida’s operating budget and associated expenditure records online. Transparency Florida is designed to provide a current, continually updated picture of the state’s operating budget as well as daily expenditures made by state agencies. The numbers are updated nightly as funds are released to agencies, transferred between budget categories, and payments are written for goods and services.

Kansas

  • KanView
    KanView is the online solution that brings better visibility, openness, and accessibility to state government financial activity for Kansas taxpayers. KanView data is presented as revenues or expenditures by the Kansas Department of Administration.

Kentucky

  • OpenDoor : Kentucky's Transparency Portal
    A bipartisan, multi-agency effort led by Governor Steve Beshear to provide a more transparent, accountable state government, and to allow you the opportunity to find out how your tax dollars are being applied to move our state forward. Here you will find Department and Agency Budgets, up-to-date salary information for state employees, and information on Kentucky taxes, Open Records, and ethics. You will also find searchable databases of grants, contract information, and line item expenditures.

Louisiana

  • LaTrac : Louisiana Transparency and Accountability
    LaTrac's primary mission is to make Louisiana's state government finances, and operations transparent and accountable to Louisiana's citizens. Today, it is more critical than ever that governments function at the highest level of integrity and efficiency in order to fairly meet the needs of its people. Accordingly, it is a necessity that government operations be open and transparent to the public. LaTrac addresses this need, presenting key Louisiana finances and operations in a clear and concise format designed for ease of public use.

Maryland

  • Maryland Funding Accountability and Transparency
    This is a public web site which allows citizens of Maryland and visitors to search and view summary information on payments made to vendors that received $25,000 or more for the respective fiscal year. Information is currently available beginning Fiscal Year 2008.

Michigan

  • Transparency and Accountability
    The State of Michigan's accountability Web site, where the citizens of Michigan can find information on state spending. Government transparency and fiscal accountability are defining principles of Michigan state government. We continue to explore new opportunities for expanding information through the award-winning Michigan.gov Web site. The data and information presented within this site will be updated on a monthly basis and new features will be added as they become available.

Missouri

  • MAP : Missouri Accountability Portal
    The MAP site is presented to the citizens of Missouri as a single point of reference to review how their money is being spent and other pertinent information related to the enforcement of government programs. As you browse the MAP site you will be able to view information about state agency expenditures, the distribution of economic development tax credits, state employee pay information, and revenues and expenditures related to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Nebraska

  • NebraskaSpending.gov
    NebraskaSpending.gov is a searchable, user-friendly website that discloses in a simple and straighforward manner how the State of Nebraska spends and receives funds. NebraskaSpending.gov has been recognized as one of the most comprehensive transparency websites in the country. The interactive site is designed to allow you to select an item and drill down for further spending information or definitions of services provided by the agency.

Nevada

New Jersey

  • YourMoney.NJ.Gov
    YourMoney.NJ.Gov is Governor Chris Christie's Government Transparency Center. Governor Christie believes the tools on this site will help taxpayers better understand public finances, make government more accountable and, ultimately, make an essential contribution to the Governor's effort to provide top quality services at prices the taxpayer can afford.

Oklahoma

  • OpenBooks : Oklahoma's Finances Online and In Action
    Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry, in his Feb. 5, 2007, State of the State address, proposed improving government transparency and openness by establishing a user friendly website that shows exactly how state dollars are spent.

Pennsylvania

  • The Recovery Act in Pennsylvania
    Learn about the more than $31 billion in Recovery Act funds coming into PA, and how $16.6 billion flowing through state agencies is being invested.

South Carolina

  • The Budget and Control Board Transperancy Hub
    The place to find out how the State of South Carolina spends your money. This site brings together information about state spending, state purchasing and state salaries so that citizens can know more about how their tax dollars are used.

Texas

  • Local Government Transparency
    We're tracking just how transparent cities, counties, school districts and other special districts across the state are with your hard-earned dollars.

Utah

Virginia

  • Open.Virginia.gov
    See how the Commonwealth is performing in areas that impact Virginians' quality of life, view the most current budget information for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and get information on state and local government expenditures and revenues, and compare budgets to actual spending.

Washington

  • Washington State Fiscal Information
    Makes Washington State fiscal information available to the public with the goal of making government more open, transparent, and accountable.

The CoSA Resource Center provides state-specific information in support of CoSA's FEMA-funded Intergovernmental Preparedness for Essential Records (IPER) courses - Essential Records and Records Emergency Planning and Response. The Resource Center continues and significantly expands the capabilities of the one initiated by CoSA in response to a call for a web-based information center emanating from the National Forum on Continuing Education (NFACE) in 2000. Development and expansion of the Resource Center has been supported by funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Cooperative Agreement Number 2007-GT-T7-K022) and the National Historial Publications and Records Comission.
